Transforming Culture to Serve Community

CLIENT:Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice of the Florida Keys, Inc.

logo-CFFKSI conducted quantitative research with employees, as well as qualitative research with referral audiences, former employees, donors and community leaders to assist this organization through its transition for the past year. From the research, SI developed and implemented a leadership and culture development program working with the senior managers of the organization for approximately six months, guiding the revitalization of the caring culture of this nonprofit home health and hospice provider. SI’s research provided critical insight to the board of directors and senior staff on operational issues that were affecting both the revenue and community perception of this long-standing organization. Guiding the organization’s board through board governance training and strategic planning facilitation, SI’s president was a trusted advisor in the recent redevelopment of the organization..

Inspiring a stronger nonprofit Monroe County

logo-CFFKCreating a stronger nonprofit community was the goal of the Leadership Success Academy, a series of training programs designed to engage board members in higher performance of their responsibilities. In its eighth year, this series continues to be instrumental in helping board members identify their own leadership styles and become more knowledgeable in servant leadership, governance, finance, development and strategic planning responsibilities. The program is offered by the Center for NonProfit Excellence of the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys in partnership with Strategists, Inc., the program facilitator and lead trainer.

OUTCOME:

Nonprofit boards and CEOs report improved knowledge and performance after completing the training program. The community now has a community standard for effective nonprofit board roles and responsibilities and dozens of nonprofit organizations are stronger thanks to the more than 300 participants completing the program.

LEED-ing the nation’s cancer hospitals

logo-UF-ShandsCharged with creating a strong common culture and focus to build the nation’s best LEED certified cancer hospital, SI worked with the client to integrate more than 150 members from various supplier teams into one cohesive unit. Throughout a three-year period, SI facilitated numerous team sessions, communications surveys and worked with the lead team members to create a focused culture, enhanced communications, streamlined operating system and bonding experience.

OUTCOME:

Together, that team built the nation’s best cancer hospital coming in 18 months ahead of schedule and saving $ mm dollars. The project received a number of industry accolades and is a model for others to follow. Now, we’re starting on a second project together.

CLIENT: Community Foundation of Broward

logo-browardAfter several years of operations, the leadership team of the Nonprofit Resource Center of the Community Foundation of Broward wanted to measure the effectiveness of the Center’s efforts. CFB hired SI to assist in creating assessment tools and processes, analyze the data and report back with recommendations of actions.

OUTCOME:

SI worked with the CFB team to create a stronger process that actually cost less than the original path the CFB was considering for the project. The data gathering was instrumental in creating much needed new services.

Road to Independence Starts Here

CLIENT: United Way of Broward County and Community Foundation of Broward

DESCRIPTION:

logo-unitedWayTransitional Independent Living Roadmap: This project involved convening many stakeholders to create a community plan for the continuum of care for those teens who age out of the foster care system. The Community Foundation and the United Way co-funded the yearlong community planning process which cast a light on a topic of concern and created actionable and realistic strategies that connected funders from many sectors.

OUTCOME:

The document became the guiding cornerstone for the foster care work targeting youth who age out of foster care in Broward County. Funders, service providers and state and local government systems utilized the plan to create a community-wide network of resources to assist vulnerable teens.

Raising dollars to raise a new roof

CLIENT: Florida Keys SPCA

logo-browardBuilding a new animal shelter was paramount for the community of Key West and the Lower Keys in Florida. The Florida Keys SPCA desperately needed a safe, new facility free from rodents, flooding and a host of other woes. FKSPCA’s Board of Directors hired Strategists, Inc. to serve as the consultant for the $6 million dollar campaign to build and create an endowment for the community’s new shelter. Strategists, Inc. provided skill building training and support for prospect identification, research, and development strategies, as well strategic planning and board governance support for this nonprofit organization over a two-year period.

OUTCOME:

Working with the board, campaign committee, and executive director, the campaign goal will be realized by the end of 2015.
